Romeó Y Julieta; Limeño
Romeo y Julieta Limeño is an innovative take on the the classic play, “Romeo and Juliet,” that aims to create conversation addressing themes of culture, family, romance, language, community, and Latin American/Hispanic ideals that are universal throughout our society. This is Matías’ playwriting debut.
Matías directed the first workshop of the play at UNCSA. Merging different forms, a space was created where impulses and communication where at the center of the creation of the piece. Having musicians, actors, the creative team, and cinematographers in the room together since day 1, allowed for all the elements to be created in tandem. The next leg of development is a fully fledged staged reading at The North Carolina Black Repertory Company’s “Shakespeare at Sunset.”
